The fifth design in the Signature Collection is the AL5 Hanamaru (Windows). Launched in 2007, it is an elaborate composition, meticulously handcrafted by the Maki-E master Issho Sawada. The Hanamaru is the spiritual connection between people and nature.

In Japanese culture the house is seen as an extension of nature. It is seen as a place to unify with nature and live harmoniously with it. This philosophy is apparent with the architecture and style of the house. A window is a medium through which nature and people connect. Marumado is a circular window and serves as a gateway for spiritual awakening and enlightenment.

Hanamaru is a combination of the word hana (floral) and maru (circle). It embodies scenes of nature seen through a marumado window. Good people looking through the marumado window view nature and can spiritually find peace and harmony within themselves.

The artist Issho Sawada created a composition portraying six beautiful scenes from nature as seen through a marumado (window).  The scenes of the design are significant and meaningful to Japanese culture.

The decoration of the Hanamaru combines three specialized techniques: Togidashi-Maki-E which involves sprinkled gold dust between layers of urushi lacquer thus forming the background upon which the rest of the design is built; Taka Maki-E which creates raised artwork that adds wonderful texture to the pen. The birds and flowers are more notable through this technique; Finally, Raden which involves pearl inlay to emphasize the Clematis flower and sparkling water with the Kingfisher scene.

The nature scenes on the pen are: Thrush and Clematis; Chrysanthemum and Patrinia; Butcherbirds and Wisteria; Egret and Rice; Kingfisher and Reed; Lily.

A letter of authenticity handwritten by Andreas Lambrou, which he signed with the artist and Masa Sunami will accompany each pen.

The series is official and carries the warranty and after sales service of the Duofold or the Legend, whichever is the canvas of the design.
