The first design in the Lambrou Sunami Collection is the LS1 Kirara (Geometric). Launched in 2001 it comprises more than 1,000 individual strips of blue pearl and pure gold. These natural and precious materials envelop the body of the pen creating a unique and exquisite work of art.

The Kirara is handcrafted by the Master Tatsuya Tōdō, a celebrated Maki-E artist in Japan. He has been awarded a great number of highly coveted prizes for the excellence of his work. With the Kirara he employs two Maki-E techniques: Raden in which small strips of blue green iridescent pearls are inlaid on the cap and barrel; Togidashi wherein gold dust is sprinkled between layers of urushi lacquer on the section.

There is a choice for the canvas of the Kirara. The Parker Duofold Centennial, one of the most celebrated pen models of all time and the new Classic Mythos full size fountain pen.

The gripping section and part of the barrel are covered with natural urushi colored lacquer and gold dust which compliment the blue pearl inlaid on the cap and barrel.

The color of the lacquer on the pen section and barrel are created to the customer’s specification and can range from yellow to orange, red and even blue.

The creation of the Kirara is extremely laborious and painstaking. Each and every strip of pearl and pure gold is cut, shaped, applied on the pen and polished by hand. The design also requires the highest degree of craftsmanship. The artist Tatsuya Tōdō is a master of this Maki-E technique, making the Kirara an exquisite composition.
