|
The LS3 Ichimatsu (Repeating Rectangles) was launched in 2002. The composition utilizes blue pearl, white pearl, coral and pure gold in a repeating rectangle design, a specialty of the Master Tatsuya Tōdō.
The preparation of more than 1,500 strips of the four natural precious materials to the exact size and shape, then hand polished is certainly labor intensive. The application of this large number of strips to create the unique composition requires the highest degree of skill. The fruit is the exquisite Ichimatsu Maki-E Art Pen.
There is a choice for the canvas of the Ichimatsu. The Parker Duofold Centennial, one of the most celebrated pen models of all time and the new Classic Mythos full size fountain pen. The gripping section and part of the barrel are covered with orange shades of lacquer and gold dust which compliment the blue and white pearl. The color of the lacquer on the pen section and barrel are created to customer’s specification and can range from yellow to orange, red and even blue. The clip feathers are covered with blue and mauve lacquer and the tip with gold dust.
The outline of the design is etched on the pen body using a sharp tool called, 'Hari Kiri' and each and every piece of pearl, coral and gold is cut to size and shape by the artist. As the circumference of the pen body changes, the width of each strip is adjusted so that the repeat rectangle symmetry is maintained. The
